SOULMATES

My very own Grandson,

Just writing this now feels so emotional.
Not having any children of my own I never really appreciated the love and joy a new born baby could bring.
Yet here I was standing holding a new born. Not just any new born but my new born.
A new life was born into my world, that would change from this moment on.
The bond that was created in those early formative years has stayed with us to this day.
You still are and always will be,

My very own Grandson.

Soulmates asks the audience to step into a lifelong bond between Grandad and Grandson. Exploring the elements that make up their relationship to each other and uncovering their individual experiences of love, devotion, relationships, family and time, Soulmates asks what it means to be family and explores the parallels in Ricky and Matt’s lives and experiences.

Devised and performed by Ricky Williamson and his Grandad Matthew Murphy as part of the Contemporary Performance Practice course at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland’s annual Into The New festival, held in the Pearce Institute in Govan from 29th January to 1st February 2018.

Avaliable for touring.
